Legal work related to the sale/purchase of a vessel can be divided into two categories: the acquisition of an existing vessel (new or used) and the construction of a new one. The purchase of an existing yacht is carried out in accordance with certain market standards (most often MYBA), but despite the relative simplicity and transparency of the schemes, it has a significant number of nuances that are important to control and comply with. Drawing up a contract for the construction of a vessel (new build contract) taking into account the stages of construction, their acceptance, payment is a completely different task in terms of volume and complexity of work, which requires not only legal support, but also the regular participation of surveyors and experts.

Vessel registration is the second mandatory stage after the transfer of ownership. The choice of flag, the conditions under which the registration is carried out, allows (in some cases) to obtain certain tax advantages, and also imposes certain requirements on the vessel, its technical condition and equipment. Ground Transportation

Transportation is carried out on specialized trailers. In some cases, it is necessary to dismantle the attachments, radar arches and even the upper deck with subsequent assembly at the point of transfer of the vessel. Since all yachts are oversized cargo, transportation is carried out with the receipt of appropriate permits and accompanied by support inspectors. Plotting the route, travel time, customs clearance - also lies on the shoulders of the carrier. Aberton Yachts has completed more than one hundred such tasks in the interests of clients during the company's work.

Over Seas Without Limits

Ship Transportation

In case of transporting a yacht over very long distances (for example, from Southeast Asia to the Mediterranean Sea) with a vessel size of up to ~50 meters, the only rational solution is sea transportation. For this, specialized vessels with cranes on board are used, which load the object from the water onto the deck or into the hold and also unload it into the water at the destination. All transportation is separately insured by the carrier, and survey control is carried out upon transfer of the cargo.

On it’s Own

Since any yacht is a vehicle, in some cases the transition from point A to point B occurs under its own power - this is the easiest way. The only thing that imposes restrictions in this case is the power reserve of the vessel and its seaworthiness. For small vessels, transitions are available in good weather and if there are gas stations along the route, while almost all yachts from 50 meters have a level of autonomy that allows crossing oceans while observing reasonable safety measures.

High Crew Selection Criteria

There is an erroneous opinion that the owner only needs to find a captain, and then he independently recruits the crew, but the real practice is different and the larger the vessel, the more difficult it is. The process of selecting and staffing the crew does not end during the entire period of ownership of the vessel. Crew members come and go, and may not suit the owner for professional and personal reasons. Selecting a crew requires a lot of attention at the stage of searching, selection, interviewing, working with recruiting companies, registering each employee in accordance with international maritime legislation, and insurance.
